DnD campaign context, rumors and quests

Evil is brewing in the shadows all along the sword coast. !

Giants across the Sword Coast are causing mayhem. No one knows why. From Baldurs gate and Golden Fields in the south to 10 Towns in the north. Frost giants is seen as south as Phandalin, which is highly strange as they have not moved that south in maybe 1000 years. Hill giants wreck farmers and primarily steel food – this might result in a general starvation and crisis in the upper half of the sword coast when winter is coming. Stone giants are attacking Dwarven stronghold like Edbar and Mithril hall.

50 Orcs and maybe 1 frost giant went 2 weeks ago to IceSpire peak and moved on to Ice Spire Hold. Not seen since, so investigate as it can be a threat to Phandalin. Ice Spire Hold might be the home of two white dragons. A Male and a female. Given the fact that Giants and dragons are mortal enemies, the orcs/giants purpose of travelling to Ice Spire hold is unclear.

Lord Neverember believes there has been a heir to the Neverwinter throne, so he is looking for him using sell-swords. He is afraid to lose his power, so there is now a bounty on the heir. Sildar believes it is the manifestation of a Tresendar hier (Eldaran) that is causing problems.

Refugees comes into the major cities (Silvermoon, Neverwinther, Baldurs gate and Waterdeep), both due to giant attacks, but also some settlements in key locations have experienced violent coup for power. Dwarven strongholds in the north have closed their borders to refugees and outsides in general. Someone is coordinating riots and often hidden attacks on smaller villages leadership, and it seems a power struggle is unfolding many places. It seems coordinated and they are using the trouble the giants are crating to maneuver in the shadows. It is unclear who is behind this.

Dwarves from Mithral Hall are experiencing a huge inflow of refugees, so they have closed their borders. The Barbarian tribe of the Uthgardt is killing and blocking refugees coming into their area, which acts as a bottleneck and a blockade for the refugees going west. If the refugees tries to go south of the Evermoors, then hill giants attack them on the plains north east of Yartar.

A Dwarf delegation is currently on their way to Waterdeep, to talk to the leadership of the Lords alliance, to get an envoy to help with the stalemate. War might break out soon between Mithril Hall, Silvermoon and the barbarian tribes, as the blockade needs to be removed. The bureaucracy might take months, before the Alliance can agree on sending an envoy, which might be to late.

Rumors

  1. King Hekaton has been missing for months.
  2. Queen Neri of the Storm Giant court was killed. The Lord’s Alliance has been accused of her murder, but no one truly knows what happened.
  3. Hekaton did not much like the small folk of the Realms, though Queen Neri was quite fond of them. While Hekaton initially disapproved of Neri’s forays into the world of the small folk, he became more tolerant of them as time went on. He even accompanied her on a few of these visits, and collaborated with them in time of need. The king did not fully trust his elder daughters Mirran and Nym, believing them unfit to lead the storm giants. Beyond Niri, he only trusted his youngest daughter, Princess Serissa who now rules the WurmSkull Throne in his absence.
  4. In fact, the Ordning has been shattered precisely because Hekaton is missing and because the bond between giants and their God is broken.
  5. The shattering of the Ordining will cause chaos for the smallfolk who will fall underfoot of the giants and their activities. All of the factions seek to prevent this.
  6. The only way to quell the giant threat is to find Hekaton and restore him to the throne, thus reestablishing the Ordning. (After the Oracle confirms that he still lives.)
  7. The Ordining has shattered the natural hierarchy of giants and all of the giants seek the opportunity to change their station.
  8. Harshnag the Grim (Or Kin-slayer) is a frost giant and member of the Gray Hands of Waterdeep during the 14th century DR. Following the shattering of the ordening in the late 1480s DR, Harshnag took it upon himself to slay evil giants who were terrorizing the people of the North. He is instrumental to restoring the Ordering and must be found. He is last seen outside of Luskan (City of sails)
  9. Refugees comes into the major cities, both due to giant attacks, but also some settlements in key locations have experienced violent coup for power
  10. A organized group (Kraken society) is moving in to gain control of minor settlements to enforce their current illegal operations
  11. Giants across the Sword Coast are causing mayhem. No one knows why.
50 Orcs went 2 weeks ago to IceSpire peak. Not seen since, so investigate as it can be a threat to Phandalin
  12. The Shroud of Nii’tcha the God Killer has been stolen from the Dwarves and have been activated severing the bond between the giants and their God
  13. Felgolos is a bronze dragon ,and your ally/friend – He wants to help you travel to the Grandfather tree once he has located his pipe weed in the Anauroch desert.
  14. Nobles and high end officials like priests are gone missing from Yartar,
  15. The God of Giants is disconnected from his followers. He might try to secure access once again, by forcing another god into submission. This might break the balance between the gods, and can result in an all-destroying war of the gods killing all living life in Fearun.
  16. Felgolos was a very imprudent bronze dragon, that traveled across Faerûn causing trouble and surviving perils, much to the befuddlement of many dragonologists. Regardless, he sought joy and fun in all of his undertakings Felgolos had little want or care for maintaining a treasure hoard as was common with so many other dragons. He is extremely unlucky, and that often has an effect on his followers.
