Letter to Luke

Dear L 3.4v# Dear Luke

I am so sorry that you have been put through this. My name is Phil and I am a scientist with Janus industries. I also consider myself your father, and I kept you alive and created you from nothing. You are my star and for what it is worth, I love and treasure you.

In my job at Janus I was engaged in research on interfacing human minds with the Matrix, well before the otaku began to appear. We wanted to try with awakend people first, because we thought they would be more resilient that mundane. We got DNA and constructed several clones which was adepted. You were version L 3.4v#. Your brothers unfortunately died either in the tanks or after we inserted Matrix technology into them. Only you and a twin survived our experiments. So our research was mostly unsuccessful, but Shiawase saw some promise in the work and so they diverted more resources into it. The following year, the Containment Zone went up and the lab found itself cut off from the outside world. We had then shifted our focus to the technomancers and build a new specimen. We called her Samantha or just Sam. We were then ordered to terminate our magic specimens… you!

I was growing more and more sick of the job and the morality of it all. Furthermore, I had come to love you as the son I never had. The company did not allow us to get children of our own. My wife Samantha, which was a cloning expert, and I decided to skip the Shiawase company and hide at her sisters. We knew Shiawase would not look kindly upon our decision. We had 15 copies of you in different states, but you and your little twin brother were the only ones outside the cloning tanks. You were three years old.

We set explosives to detonate the remaining tanks and left in the middle of the night with your twin and my wifes brother in law Bruce. We succeeded in getting out of the containment zone and flee to his manor house. You were a truly asset and several magic organizations wanted to get to you and study you. We got help from Atlanteen foundation, but they also wanted to study you extensively. They got a little determined and I did not want you to be trapped again, so we cut all ties and did not tell them where we went.

If you are reading this letter, I might be dead. Right now I am sitting inside the house looking out in the corn field hoping to start a new life.  But we are fugitives and I know that the Shiawase Corporation will stop at nothing to get their assets back – so will the foundation. Thrust no one, and please keep safe. I can hear your voice outside and that makes me truly happy. It is better than your screams in the lab.

I am sorry Luke for what I have done – I will carry it forever in my heart.

Sincerely Phil, Proud and loving father
